Long break with no news, but we are still here...
With the prices of wireless networking (WIFI)
technology coming down in price so drastically there are many people
considering this route. And it is in an excellent choice. However,
one of the big problems with WIFI is that of range or more
accurately the lack of range. One way to increase the range of your
WIFI network is through a
repeater or an
antenna.
Here is an interesting article about how Largo, Florida is using
Linux to decrease their networking infrastructure costs and
maintenance.

Viewsonic has released their first PocketPC based
PDA. This device has been getting excellent reviews and appears to
be an incredible deal. Comparable PDAs from other manufacturers are
in the USD$600 range, but Viewsonic's VC35 comes in at around

Annoyed with all that spam you are getting? I've
been using SpamNet for a while
now with excellent results. It's an email filter that is installed
on your Windows machine to filter out all that spam. Highly
recommended.
Microsoft release the first service pack for XP
last week. I haven't installed it yet, but if you are fearing
fearless you can download all 133 MB's of it right
here.
There is a fairly big security hole in XP that
was announced this week. Details and a fix can be found
here. The SP for XP
will also fix this hole.

Microsoft's new Windows XP Media Center Edition, which is
designed to turn the PC into a convergence device/home entertainment
hub, will have strong copy protections built-in. For instance, for
Tivo-like digital video recording, users would be unable to archive
the shows or copy them for a friend. Dumb!
